He went on to achieve his Master of Science (MSc) degree in
Investigative Ophthalmology & Vision Science in 1995 from the
University of Manchester, before completing basic surgical training
in the Midlands.
During his three and a half years as a Senior House Officer, and
18 months as a Specialist Registrar, he gained experience in
managing ocular trauma, phacoemulsification cataract surgery, the
management of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
While Clinical Assistant in ophthalmology from 1997 to 1999, he
gained extensive experience in the use of the ARGON and Nd: YAG
lasers for various ophthalmic disorders, and in basic lid surgery.
His last NHS posts in higher surgical training were at Halifax
Royal Infirmary, Bradford Royal Infirmary, and Scarborough General
Hospital, Yorkshire, and University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Dr Mughal initiated his interest in corneal refractive laser
surgery, after completing the Online Refractive Surgery Programme
with distinction in June 2006.
Dr Mughal is currently performing conductive keratoplasty
treatment for presbyopia. He also performs LASIK and LASEK
procedures.
Dr Mughal joined Optimax in 2007.
