Laser eye surgery
Laser eye surgery, also known as refractive surgery, is a medical procedure used to correct common vision problems like shortsightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. The need for glasses or contact lenses occurs when there are imperfections on your cornea, preventing the eye from focusing effectively. Laser eye surgery aims to smooth out these irregularities, leaving you with perfect vision.

Types of Laser Eye Surgery
We offer two types of laser eye surgery, LASIK and LASEK.The same lasers are used for each procedure and both produce outstanding results. Our optometrists and eye surgeons will recommend the best treatment option for you. They will consider your lifestyle and prescription to recommend your most suited procedure.
At Optimax, we also use Wavefront technology, which obtains a unique map of each eye and together with other tests we tailor the treatment accordingly. Wavefront and IntraLase treatment are combined to create the Gold Standard for laser eye surgery.
LASIK SURGERY
Suitable for individuals with stable vision prescriptions and sufficient corneal thickness for flap creation. Generally preferred for moderate to high levels of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
The Lasik procedure requires the creation of a flap on the cornea’s surface; laser is then used to reshape the cornea and the flap is then repositioned. The healing process is quick and results are very accurate.
LASEK SURGERY
Suitable for individuals with thinner corneas and mild to moderate vision issues. Recommended for patients with occupations/hobbies that pose a risk to a LASIK flap. During treatment the epithelium is loosened with alcohol solution and removed. Laser is then used to reshape the cornea and epithelium is replaced. Lasek requires a slightly longer healing and might involve the use of protective contact lens.
WAVEFRONT TECHNOLOGY
Wavefront technology is an advanced approach used in laser eye surgery to enhance the accuracy and precision of vision correction. It measures and maps the unique imperfections and irregularities of an individual's eye, going beyond traditional prescriptions based on glasses or contact lenses. Wavefront technology has contributed to reducing the occurrence of visual disturbances such as halos, glare, and reduced night vision

Can I have Laser Eye Surgery?
Our laser eye surgery procedures can be used to correct a number of issues, so if you rely on glasses or contact lenses in order to see clearly, you could be eligible for treatment. Patients tend to be more suitable for laser eye treatment if they are under 45, but please note that you must be at least 18 years of age to be classed as eligible.

After your treatment we will provide you with drops to keep your eyes hydrated, reduce discomfort, and help with the healing process. At Optimax, all necessary aftercare is includedfree of charge within the first 12 months of your treatment date or until you are discharged.
