CK - Eye Treatment
Live your life without reading glasses again
CK treatment can restore your youthful vision and let you once
again enjoy life naturally without glasses. Read the newspaper, see
a menu, use a mobile phone, score your golf card in the rain, put
on make up and fiddle with all the other little things in life
which have become difficult to handle. The list is endless. You can
also shed that middle aged look with glasses perched on the end of
your nose or hanging around your neck. CK is the answer; a safe 3
minute procedure can release you from the burden of old age
specs.
The need for Reading Glasses
(Presbyopia)
CK treats people developing
presbyopia, a condition where the
eye’s natural lens loses elasticity through aging. Note this is a
different condition to long sight or hyperopia.
When you reach your mid forties
reading material gets harder to see - you have to hold things
farther away to be able to read them clearly. Soon your arms are
too short and an expensive trip to the opticians is needed. The
cause is that the muscles inside the eye become stiff with age. It
affects everybody eventually! Your distance vision is not affected
by age unless you are long sighted.

How CK works
CK (or
Conductive Keratoplasty)
is a non-laser treatment which is
non-surgical in
the layman’s sense because it doesn’t involve removing tissue or
cutting of any kind. Radio waves are beamed in a circle of dots
around the coloured part of the eye away from the central part
through which you see. The change in shape to mimics the effect of
multi-focal glasses. Usually only one eye is treated to restore
clear close vision. CK treatment induces shrinking of the tissue of
the eye which acts like a belt tightening, making the surface a
little steeper (a little short sighted) which gives a big advantage
in close up vision at a small loss of distance clarity in the eye
which is selected for reading. Re profiling the shape of the
eye enables good near vision while at the same time not affecting
your overall distance vision when using both eyes.

Cost
The cost of consultation is £60. Treatment costs £995 per eye not
including the consultation fee. About three quarters of people will
only require one eye treated and the cost saving is substantial.
Top up treatments cost £497, so for under £100 per year thereafter
most patients can gain freedom from reading glasses.
Suitability
You are over 45.
You have near normal distance vision.
You use glasses for reading only.
Safety
It can be described as a very safe operation with no serious
problems reported in 150,000 cases performed worldwide to date. The
radio waves do not go near the centre of the eye which you use to
see. Side effects are minimal as there is no cutting of tissue, no
injections or stitches. Occasionally CK treatment can result in
distortion of vision which can result in the need for a second
procedure at no charge to yourself.
Results
83% of patients can read newspaper size print following
treatment. It is usual that one eye is adjusted for good
reading vision and the other is used for good distance
vision. Patients are usually delighted with treatment.
A Simple and Quick Procedure
The procedure itself takes only a total of 3 minutes. A probe
is placed upon the numbed eye while the radio waves are delivered
through a small tip in a circle of dots around the eye.
Treatment can be given on your first visit and can take place about
an hour after your consultation which means the total time in the
clinic is about an hour and a half.
Permanency
As you get older, stronger reading glasses are needed. This means
extra treatment is required every 3 to 5 years to keep up with the
passage of time. Treatment at this period is at half our standard
price.
Recovery
After the procedure you may experience mild discomfort and
scratchiness of the eye for about 12 hours or so. You should notice
an immediate improvement in reading vision and you can return to
normal activities on the day after treatment. The final
settling down process will take a few weeks and you should not
worry if your vision fluctuates a little in this period.
Small grey dots around the eye are slightly visible for a few weeks
following surgery.
Practical considerations
After treatment you should not rub your eyes, and ladies should not
wear eye make up for two days. We recommend that you do not drive
for about a week after treatment while you get used to your new
vision.

usually written. It will be a number like +1.5 or +2.5.
