LASEK Eye Surgery
LASEK is an alternative surface surgery without the need to
create a flap, and is often performed when LASIK is not possible.
LASEK is a combination of two treatment techniques, PRK
and Epi-Flap. PRK is the original surface
laser method pioneered in 1988 to alter the shape of the front of
the eye (cornea). LASEK is sometimes referred to as "Epi-LASEK".
LASEK is a newer technique designed to preserve the renewable
surface cells (epithelium) on the eye.
Bandage (soft disposable contact) lenses are often used to give
clear vision directly after treatment and reduce pain. A small
number of patients are unable to tolerate bandage lenses and
experience severe but temporary discomfort and light sensitivity as
a result.
