Get to know our clinic manager


When you’re doing your research for laser eye surgery, we know that a huge part of your decision relies on you feeling comfortable with your chosen clinic and team. Having friendly familiar faces around goes a long way to helping you feel calm and relaxed, so we love to introduce members of our Optimax family to prospective patients.


Today, we’re chatting with Rebecca, clinic manager of our Liverpool clinic. Rebecca has been with us for almost 6 years and certainly knows a thing or two about laser eye surgery, cataract/RLE treatment, and implantable contact lenses. We sat down with Rebecca a couple of weeks ago to talk about her time with Optimax and to find out what she gets up to in her role of running the Liverpool clinic.


What’s your favourite part of the job?


I really enjoy our lens treatment days on a Friday when the whole team are in the clinic giving our patients the best care possible. We have a great team in Liverpool, some of whom have been here for over 15 years, along with our Medical Director Mr Ilango. There’s a great energy and buzz on a treatment day! The patients come in so excited and it’s lovely to see them so happy when they leave – it’s a very rewarding job.


Do you have any patients who were particularly memorable?


There have been quite a few memorable patients during my time here.


We had one patient who was a ballroom dancing instructor. His prescription before treatment was -21 in his right eye and -18.50 in his left eye, which is a very high prescription. He had monofocal lens treatment and ended up with 20/20 vision! Afterwards, he gave us his old glasses with extremely thick lenses to keep in the clinic and show future patients.


Another patient had multifocal lenses fitted with us. She was an artist and was getting her colours mixed up and she couldn’t see the fine detail of her work – she was forced to give up on her passion. Once she had her treatment, she was able to go back to her painting and was so happy with the results.


We also had a laser patient who had worn glasses for 15 years. He enjoyed scuba diving but couldn’t see the fish properly. He eventually went ahead with LASIK treatment and was so grateful for his results. He booked a holiday following treatment to complete his PADI scuba diving course!


What do you do in our Liverpool clinic to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?


We try and give the best customer service possible. One of the ways we do this is to provide the patients with as much information about the treatment as possible, so they feel comfortable going ahead with their procedure. Each patient has their own patient advisor who is with them throughout the whole process. They are able to contact them at any time with further questions or for any reassurance.


Thank you to Rebecca for giving us a bit of insight into what life is like at our Liverpool clinic. It’s always especially uplifting to hear stories about patients’ whose lives have changed dramatically after having treatment with us, so we’re really pleased that Rebecca shared them here with us!
