Mr Hamada is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist and Corneal surgeon with special interest in complex cornea, eye surface diseases, and modern cataract surgery.
He completed his medical training at the West Midlands School of Ophthalmology. Subsequently he completed fellowships in several disciplines at the UK’s leading eye centres.
His areas of expertise include laser refractive surgery, lens (non-laser) refractive surgery, cataract surgery, intraocular lens procedures (multifocal, toric, or phakic) and management of laser surgery complications.
He has higher qualifications in cataract and refractive surgery including a master’s degree from Ulster University and fellowship training in reputable international eye centres.
Mr Hamada has performed more than 15,000 surgeries, including cataract, laser and lens exchange procedures. He specialises in complex cases.
Recently, Mr Hamada has received the distinguished achievement award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2013.
Currently, he is a consultant eye surgeon at the world-famous Corneoplastic Unit at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust, and Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust.
He has attained fellowship of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London (FRCOphth), The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (FRCSEd), the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS), and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Mr Hamada is well-published and produces pioneering papers on the management of corneal diseases. In addition, he is a contributing editor on peer-reviewed journals. He is active in developing new innovations for managing patients with corneal diseases, and speaks regularly at international eye conferences. In addition, he is Editor-in-chief of Ocular Surface Insight OSI magazine which examines cornea, ocular surface disease and dry eye topics.
