Embracing Improved Vision With The EVO Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO ICL)
The EVO Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO ICL) is quickly becoming a vision correction lens of choice for many people around the world, with more people from all walks of life acknowledging and embracing its long-term benefits. Athletes, entrepreneurs and corporate executives alike are quickly catching on to what it can do.
One notable figure who has recently benefited from this life-changing lens is English professional footballer Lucy Bronze, MBE. The 33-year-old, who plays for Women’s Super League Club Chelsea and the England women’s national team, underwent EVO ICL and now enjoys sharper vision, which aids her movement on the pitch as she dictates play from right-back.
In her own words, “EVO ICL has been a procedure that changed my life completely, and my biggest regret is literally the fact that I didn't do it sooner."
Bronze, a two-time BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year and former UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, is amazed by the results of this lens, and with good reason: it leaves you with vastly improved vision, as well as the ability to see things much more clearly and in greater focus.
On what prompted her to try EVO ICL, Bronze noted, "I've won the Euros and five Champions leagues, but I always had that worry on the pitch that my contact lenses might fall out, and mid-game, it has actually happened. Not to mention the dry eyes, uncomfortable lens fits and daily hassles…I realised I needed to tackle my vision.”
The EVO ICL is a posterior chamber implant that is introduced through a small incision in the eye and is placed behind the iris (the coloured part of the eye), and in front of the natural crystalline lens in order to improve your vision and remedy your eye defects.
Produced by STAAR Surgical (one of the world’s leading manufacturers of implantable lenses), EVO ICL is used by Optimax Eye Surgery, the UK’s pioneering eye surgery specialists, for all its ICL treatments. This lens is an excellent choice as it can cater to very strong prescriptions (up to +10 for long-sighted patients, -20 for short-sighted patients, and +6 for astigmatism). It is made from collamer, which means that it is biocompatible and works in natural harmony with your eye, as well as providing UV protection.
Speaking of treatments, ICL surgery is the procedure that involves implanting the thin, biocompatible lens inside the eye to correct refractive errors. Unlike other types of eye surgery like LASIK or PRK, ICL surgery doesn't require the removal of corneal tissue.
The ICL procedure is often considered for individuals in their 20s and early 30s with a higher than average prescription, or eye surface characteristics (like thinner corneas) that makes them ineligible for laser eye correction. It is suitable for patients between 21-60 years old who struggle with mild to severe myopia (-0.5D to -20.0D), mild to severe hyperopia (+0.5D to +10.0D), or astigmatism between 0.5D and 6.0D.
People who decide to proceed with ICL treatment are motivated by the benefits enjoyed by previous patients over the years. These benefits include:
- Wide Range of Treatment: ICL represents an alternative to other refractive surgeries including, laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), incisional surgeries, or other means to correct your vision such as contact lenses and eye glasses.
- Flexibility: EVO ICLs are easy to implant in the eye because of the soft and flexible structure. You won’t even know it’s there other than the fact that you have great vision.
- Biocompatibility: The material from which the lens is made contains collagen, helping it to work in natural harmony with your eye.
- Reduced Dry Eye Risk: There is a much smaller risk of developing dry eyes following treatment, since it doesn’t involve reshaping your corneal tissue.
- Night Vision: Clinical studies have shown that the EVO Visian ICL provides excellent night vision.
- UV Protection: The Collamer material of the lens provides UV protection. UV rays can damage the eyes by bringing on a variety of eye conditions like macular degeneration, cataracts, pinguecula, and pterygium. The EVO Visian ICL helps to lower these risks.
- Reversibility: With Implantable Contact Lens surgery, the natural lens remains in place, so the procedure is reversible, should your visual requirements change.
- Safety: There is a complication rate of less than 1 in 1,000 (0.1%), so you can be confident that ICL eye surgery is one of the safest medical procedures.
It would seem that Ms Bronze is not the only one in love with this revolutionary lens. By way of global statistics, 99.4% of EVO Visian ICL patients have stated that they would be glad to undergo the procedure again.
