Get to know the laser and lens treatment team
We’ve got a lovely team in our Leicester clinic that goes out of their way to provide top-class service to Optimax patients. With some team members having been here as long as 16 years, they have a wealth of experience between them. We had a chat with the whole team, ranging from patient advisors and nurses to the clinic manager and head optometrist. We wanted to know exactly what it is that they love about their jobs, and to hear a bit about the patient journey they provide.

Kelly – Patient Advisor
How long have you been at Optimax?

What’s your favourite part of the job?
When patients come in for their first aftercare appointments and you get to see how surgery has changed their lives.
Describe your most memorable patient and their vision correction journey
My most memorable patient was a father/daughter duo. They had their consultations on the same day and were recommended different procedures based on prescription and age. The daughter was recommended laser surgery and I discussed my experience of laser surgery with her, whilst my colleague Maria discussed lens replacement surgery with the father as she has had this procedure. They went on to have their separate surgeries and both have had fantastic results – the Dad went from a -12.00 prior to surgery to having the best vision he’s ever had. Their wife/mum was so nervous for both of them (which she tells me she needn’t have been!) and we have a lovely chat every time they come in for aftercare appointments.
What do you do at Optimax Leicester to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?
I try my best to be as reassuring as I can – eye surgery is a big decision and I’ll be here for you every step of the way, from initial consultation to your last aftercare.

Describe your most memorable patient and their vision correction journey
My sister-in-law recently came to us to get rid of her glasses. It was nice to be able to advise her on what would be the best option for her and answer any questions that she had.
What do you do at Optimax Leicester to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?
I like to speak to patients as if they are a friend.

Scrubbing for surgery and being in theatre

My most memorable patient was when we treated our colleague Maria.
What do you do at Optimax Leicester to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?
We talk the patient through the procedure and remind them that we are here to support them.

Scrubbing for surgery/being in theatre
Describe your most memorable patient and their vision correction journey
A patient came in to have implantable contact lens surgery. After the surgery was complete, she sat up and started crying. She was so emotional because she could see so much better than before her surgery. It was a fantastic feeling to watch someone’s life being changed.
What do you do at Optimax Leicester to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?
I like to talk to the patients and explain the procedure. I have had lens replacement surgery so feel comfortable discussing my own experiences of surgery and what to expect.

The people – both staff and patients
Describe your most memorable patient and their vision correction journey
A patient had implantable contact lens surgery and came in for her one day check-up. She already had better than 20/20 vision and started crying because she had never been able to see the bottom of the eye chart before!

A smile goes a long way! I try and make every patient feel as comfortable as possible.

When patients come in for their first aftercare and they can already see the results.
Describe your most memorable patient and their vision correction journey
I’ve been here a long time – there are a lot of memorable patients! I like seeing implantable contact lens patients after their surgery as their prescriptions are usually quite high before surgery – it really is life changing for them.
What do you do at Optimax Leicester to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed?
I try to be as reassuring as I can and show them I’m here to help.
